Phosphorescent Opens Rock Hall Summer Series

Wed 7/17 @ 7-10 PM

One of Cleveland’s coolest of summer music parties, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s Summer in the City series, kicks off with yet another Brooklyn-based artist, Phosphorescent.

OK, so this particular emissary from hipsterdom is actually from Alabama via Athens, Georgia. In the irritating new rock tradition of an individual giving himself the cover of a band name, Matthew Houck is Phosphorescent, a conduit for his lowkey, country-tinged indie rock music.

And the move seems to have paid off, as he’s released a series of critically praised recordings — love from Pitchfork! — including his latest, his sixth album, Muchacho, on the Dead Oceans label.

Summer in the City takes place on the plaza in front of the Rock Hall (or on the lobby stage just inside if it rains). Food and beverages are for sale, including at food trucks. But the show is free.

Philly-based Strand of Oaks, which is actually Tim Showalter (this is really getting tiresome!), opens.

Phosphorescent’s show is the first of four. Go here for a complete schedule.
