Richard Thompson To Electrify the Kent Stage

Sun 7/7 @ 7PM

Few names in contemporary folk music are more revered than that of Richard Thompson.

The London-born singer/songwriter/guitarist cofounded the influential folk/pop ensemble Fairport Convention in the ’60s, while he was still in his teens. There he established his reputation both as a songwriter and guitar virtuoso.

Despite that group’s acclaim, it proved to be merely a launch pad for Thompson’s long, successful career including a series of much-praised albums with his former wife Linda from 1974-1982.

And THAT was only a beginning as well. It was followed by a solo career that has included work in many configurations with many respected collaborators, as well as soundtrack work.

The 64-year-old musician’s current configuration is the Electric Trio, with himself on electric guitar, Michael Jerome on drums, and Taras Prodaniuk on bass.

Their tour, which brings them to the Kent Stage, follows the February release of a forceful album titled Electric, which adds ten new Thompson tunes to his vast catalogue of graceful songs that probe the dark corners of human relationships and behavior.

Tickets are $36-$46.
