Second Gen Blues Legend Lurrie Bell at Wilbert’s

Thu 7/11 @ 8PM

Like blues singer Shemekia Copeland, Chicago blues guitarist Lurrie Bell is carrying a torch handed off by his father.

Son of blues harmonica player Carey Bell, who played with Muddy Waters, he grew up hanging around with blues legends as well as playing in church. By the time he was 21 he had played with two blues legends, Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor as well as his father.

He’s recorded for two major blues labels, Delmark and Alligator, and current has his own label Aria B.G. Records, on which he released last year’s The Devil Ain’t Got No Music, which embraces his roots in both blues and gospel.

He’ll be at Wilbert’s, with Maine-based singer/songwriter and acoustic fingerstyle guitarist Max Garcia Conover opening.
