Singers to Perform Porgy and Bess Selections With Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom

The 1935 opera Porgy and Bess, with songs composed by George & Ira Gershwin, has become a beloved stage perennial, providing a long list of memorable songs for talented vocalists to feast on, from the standard “Summertime,” to the wry, uptempo “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’” to the painfully heartrending “I Loves You Porgy.”

Soprano Laquita Mitchell, baritone Eric Greene and tenor Rodrick Dixon will be tackling those tunes at Blossom Music Center, with the Cleveland Orchestra and Blossom Festival Chorus providing the musical infrastructure when they perform highligts from Porgy and Bess.

The program, conducted by Robert Porco, also includes also includes John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare and Suite from Lincoln, and Oscar Navarro’s II Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, with Cleveland Orchestra clarinetist Franklin Cohen soloing.

Pavilion tickets are $25-$85. Lawn tickets are $20, with under 18 free on the lawn.
