Louisville, Kentucky’s Catherine Irwin became known to indie rock fans when she hooked up with Janet Beveridge Bean of the respected Chicago band Eleventh Dream Day to form Freakwater.
While that band continues to ply is ragged alt-country, Irwin has made a couple of solo albums on the side. Her second,Little Heater, which came out last year, also draws on old-time country music, both backwoods and Nashville-polished, for its raw material.
Irwin is known as an exceptional songwriter, whose songs have been recorded by such alt-country icons as Neko Case and Kelly Hogan.
Irwin will play at the Beachland Tavern with Louisville’s Old Baby and Cleveland’s Ivan Medgyesi opening.
Admission is $8.
