Sunday’s PD carried “The Sketchbook” by staff artist Chris Morris on page 2A. It depicted smiling steelworkers completing work on the Inner Belt Bridge … all six of them white (although one was female). Minorities have been agitating for years in regards to the lack of inclusion and diversity in the trade unions, and this depiction of the exclusion of blacks stands as a prime example of what we have been complaining about. Taking a larger, journalistic, view — how someone at the PD (which has a black editor) didn’t catch this is indicative of the lack of concern the paper and its staff has in regards to the issues of diversity and fair employment practices.
