Mike’s Barn Moves Annual Broad Side of the Barn Show to New Location

Sun 9/1 @ 6PM

Mike’s Barn, an intimate, informal music venue near Elyria, started by Mike Yates in 1994, ran into some problems in being able to operate legally this season. It wasn’t able to present its usual summer programming of acoustic jazz and blues performers and musician jam sessions.

But Yates didn’t give up.

He has found an alternative location and booked its first show just ahead of the end of summer.

It’s the eighth edition of a Mike’s Barn tradition called “Broad Side of the Barn,” featuring a lineup of diverse and talented woman performers. It’ll take place at the Melody Barn in nearby LaGrange.

The evening is headlined by blues singer Teeny Tucker, who started her career singing in church in her native Dayton, Ohio. By the mid ’90s she’d performed at the Apollo and started to tour Europe.  Since then, she’s become a regular at music festivals and won numerous awards. (For trivia fans, she’s the daughter of the late Tommy Tucker, who had a hit with “Hi-Heel Sneakers” in 1963.)

She’ll be joined by a roster of local performers: jazz/soul singer Ki Allen, blues artist Kristine Jackson, singer-songwriter Tracy Marie, Oberlin music student Simone Baron, and Emily Keener.

Tickets are $25.
