World-renowned contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems visits the Cleveland Museum of Art this Sunday afternoon for a lecture in the CMA’s Gartner Auditorium on her career-spanning, current exhibition. Weem’s retrospective encompasses 30 years of exploration of issues concerning race, class and gender using photography and video installations. Her work seeks to better understand the present by studying history as well as our collective and individual identity.
This is Weem’s second lecture at the Museum. She first came to help open the museum’s east wing gallery in 2009. Her retrospective, Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video, is on view 6/30 – 9/29.
