Alt-Country’s Robbie Fulks at the Beachland Tavern

Sun 9/29 @ 8PM

Chicago-based singer-songwriter-guitarist Robbie Fulks is one of the mainstays of Americana/alternative country, embracing the full range of the genre label.

His music incorporates country, folk, and bluegrass, of course, but also punk and pop and a little bit of whatever else is lying around. And his lyrics explore the contemporary cultural landscape with all its warts.

His latest album Gone Away Backward adds to his catalog for Bloodshot Records, the respected Chicago alt-country label that’s put out some of the finest work in that style. He’s recorded for the label on and off since his 1996 debut, with a brief detour to major label Geffen and a longer one to another quality indie, Yep Roc.

Unfortunately, consistent quality and wonderful music don’t always translate into large audiences. He’ll be at the Beachland Tavern with local rootsy singer-songwriter Charlie Hill Jr. opening.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.
