The Cleveland Orchestra is back at Severance Hall this weekend for its first concerts of the season. And Beethoven is on the menu, a popular entrée. The piece is his piano concerto No. 5 aka Emperor, featuring French-born pianist Hélène Grimaud as soloist.
On Thursday and Saturday evenings, it will be paired with Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. The work features a soprano voice in the fourth and final movement, a part that will be sung by Maureen McKay, making her Cleveland Orchestra debut.
The Beethoven Concerto will also be performed Friday as part of the orchestra’s KeyBank Fridays@7, when it will be performed with Schumann’s Symphony No. 1.
All the concerts will be conducted by Metropolitan Opera principal conductor Fabio Luisi.
Luisi talks about conducting this concert with the Cleveland Orchestra here.
Tickets are $31-$150.
