The Starmaker, the latest release by Toronto duo Not The Wind, Not The Flag, contains only three tracks, ranging from 11:22 to 20:17.
But the type of free-form, experimental, ambient soundscapes they create requires that much temporal room to expand, build, evolve, and mutate in a slow, rangy manner. Layers of electronic and percussive sounds rise and recede as the pieces meander along, exploding in places into aggressive sonic chaos.
They’ll be at Now That’s Class with some musically adventurous local acts: Brian McCoy, the Trepanning Trio, and Orange Luna Temple Lull. It won’t be a sing-along night.
Admission is $5.
