Glam Rockers Vanity Crash Debut Concept Album at Five O’Clock Lounge

Fri 9/6 @ 10PM

Cleveland’s Vanity Crash is not your run-of-the-mill band. So naturally, their new album, Yours, Justice, their second, is not the same old stuff.

It’s got a story line about a man named AJ who goes off his hinges after his fiancée cheats on him and becomes a serial killer. Hokey? Maybe. But Vanity Crash isn’t a band that goes for the safe and understated.

Lead singer Dan Folino, who came up with the concept, is also one of the area’s most acclaimed actors, who’s never met a role too transgressive to tackle. That attitude drives Yours, Justice.

His fellow band members, Dennis Yurich and Jason Giaco, bring an equally adventurous approach to the music, enhancing the band’s bedrock Bowie-esque glitter rock with a crazy-quilt of other styles.

The ten-year-old band has had a sporadic career. It grew out of the members’ appearance in the Cleveland Public Theatre production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and their shared love for riff-driven, over-the-top theatrical rock.

But the project was on hold for a couple of years when Folino took an acting job in a Virginia-based theater company. Then local theater projects took up much of the band members’ time.

But in the last year, they’ve rededicated themselves to Vanity Crash, finishing the album they’d begun before Folino left for Virginia and playing more frequently, including monthly gigs at Lakewood’s Five O’Clock Lounge, where they will celebrate their CD release party.

It’s going to be a long night of fun. After the band’s set, DJ Jonny Lama will spin dance-rock tunes.

There’s no cover charge, but the band is promising that anyone who buys the CD at the gig or in advance will be entered in a drawing for terrific prizes.
