After spending years wiring 24 counties in Northeast Ohio with all-fiber high-speed broadband, now OneCommunity is upping the ante. Their fiber super highway is 1000 times faster than your ordinary DSL or cable connection, and can be used to reduce the digital divide, to connect citizens with their governments, and to offer a racetrack for digital entrepreneurs to create new businesses.
They’ve partnered with the City of Shaker Heights and LaunchHouse to create a complete “Fiberhood” connecting with high speed fiber the Lee/Chagrin corridor in Shaker Heights, enabling an “intelligent community” with high-speed broadband helping to improve health care & reduce costs, enable distance learning and e-mentoring, creating jobs and stimulating innovation.
Northeast Ohio is particularly primed for these high tech opportunities. We have strong social capital and a history of generous philanthropy, world-class health care institutions, and engaged business leaders with an urgency for change. Layer on the high-speed fiber that OneCommunity’s been laying down, and this region is ready to light up.
