Ripped and Raw @ Rotten Meat

Fri 10/4 @ 5pm

This Friday, Rotten Meat Gallery presents new work by local artist John W. Carlson.  Ripped and Raw combines traditional oils with alkalids, charcoal and graphite freely applied to large canvases.  Carlson creates ambiguous compositions by freely applying his materials while controlling the negative space.  This ambiguity creates unique emotional and psychological reactions for each viewer.

Carlson attended Cleveland’s Cooper School of Art and currently resides in Bay Village.  He was recently juried into the Midyear Show at the Butler Institute of American Art and invited to participate in the Florence Biennale in 2009 at the Fortezza de Basso in Florence, Italy.  His work is in public and private collections including the permanent collection of the Erie Art Museum.  His influences include Egon Schiele, Franz Kline, Edward Hopper and Lucien Freud.
