The Legendary Nick Lowe at the Kent Stage

Mon 9/30 @ 8PM

Few figures were more key in the British pub rock/new wave scene than Nick Lowe.

He was one of a group of ragingly talented singer-songwriters — including people like Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, and Joe Jackson — who emerged in the mid-late ’70s and wrote and recorded tunes that pretty much transcended any era and genre.

Lowe’s never surpassed his only American hit, 1979’s “Cruel to Be Kind.” But his tunes — others include “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass,” “I Knew The Bride (When She Used to Rock ’n’Roll),” and the Elvis Costello hit “(What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding” — have a zesty, irreverent spirit that makes them sound fresh today. And the unpretentious Lowe can sill rock out at the age of 64.

Lowe will be at the Kent Stage with Paul Cebar opening.

Tickets are $31-$41.
