Tim Burton’s classic film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, celebrates the 20th anniversary of its release this week.
It involves a group of characters from “Halloween Town” who attempt to take over “Christmas Town.” The stop-motion musical featured music by Oingo Boingo’s Danny Elfman, music which is beloved by fans of the film.
Earlier this year, Cleveland musician Kris Morron, who has played with such area groups as Swank Motel, Aphrodesiatics, Mifune, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, and the Revolution Brass Band, had the idea to perform the music live with an all-star cast of area musicians.
It was a big, expensive undertaking, so he launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise $5,000 to fund it. That covered licensing the music, paying thirty of the area’s top musicians for eight rehearsals, and promoting the event.
The results hit the Beachland Ballroom stage this week. The show will not only feature the music from the film, but also such Oingo Boingo classics as “Weird Science” and “Dead Man’s Party.”
Wear your costume! The evening will also feature costume contests. DJ Funk Shway will also provide music.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door. If you’d like an event poster, it’s $23 in advance, $29 at the door.
