Another Noisy Night at Now That’s Class With Vaz (ex-Hammerhead), Cleveland’s Obnox and Murderedman

Tue 11/5 @ 9PM

Minneapolis-based Hammerhead, originally from Fargo, North Dakota, was one of an army of deliciously noisy, heavy bands who passed through the Euclid Tavern and the old Grog Shop in the ’90s. Like so many of those bands (The Cows, Today Is the Day, Chokebore, Tar), they recorded for Minneapolis label Amphetamine Reptile, famous for the clobbering density of its roster.

Vaz is the spawn of Hammerhead, featuring two of its members, now based in Brooklyn.

But don’t worry; they haven’t turned into artsy hipsters. The bludgeoning trio still has more than a whiff of jagged, clattering heartland metal in its sound. The band’s been kicking around for almost 15 years, although it took a lengthy hiatus in the latter half of the ’00s. Its latest album is 2011’s Chartreuse Bull.

Vaz will headline a show at Now That’s Class with a pair of excellent noisy Cleveland acts: Obnox, the raw, raggedy project fronted by This Moment in Black History’s drummer Lamont Bim Thomas, and Murderedman, an intense, assaultive trio that includes ex-members of such local underground legends as Jerk, Clan of the Cave Bear, and Self Destruct Button.

If you have some aggression you need to vent, this is the place to be Tuesday night.

Admission is $7.
