Breastfest Hosts 13th Year at Brothers Lounge

Sun 10/27 @3-8PM

It’s hard to imagine there’s anyone not “aware” of breast cancer, given the relentless torrent of pink shit we’ve been drowning in for the past two decades.

But October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is why a group of Cleveland’s woman musicians have been doing their breast cancer awareness event Breastfest, bout to have its 13th iteration. If nothing else, it’s a chance to see a big lineup of great local talent.

It takes place at Brothers Lounge this year, in both the music hall and the wine bar.

The music hall stage kicks off at 2:50 with a drum circle (you can bring your own hand drums and participate), followed by sets Alexis Antes, Robin Stone, Becky Boyd and Real Life, the Womack Family Band, and Anne E. DeChant.

Over in the wine bar, Brent Kirby, who hosts the weekly Wednesday night 10×3 singer-songwriter showcases, will do the same thing (10 performers, three songs each) with ten women artists: Meganne Stepkam Angelisa Corgnale, Corissa Bragg, Noon (Erin Kapferer), Mal SanMarco, Anita Keys, Megan Elk, Rachel Brown, Claudia Schieve (Becky Boyd’s daughter), and Kelly Zullo. That starts at 3 pm.

Tickets are $25 in advance, but if you bring a drum to participate in the drums circle by 3 pm, you get in free.

And for those of you who were justifiably appalled by the co-option of the big kahuna of national breast cancer charities, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, by anti-choice zealots last year, know that the proceeds from this event will stay local, going to the Barbara Leslie Fund at Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center.
