Hard Rock Legends U.F.O. Coming to the Tangier

Thu 10/17 @ 8PM

British hard rock/heavy metal band U.F.O. goes WAY back — all the way to 1969 with a couple of brief gaps.

Needless to say, the “former members” list is lengthy including brilliant but erratic guitarist Michael Schenker, who played with them in the ’70s and attempted an abortive comeback in the ’90s.

But singer Phil Mogg has been a constant, and original drummer Andy Parker has been back on board since the mid 2000s. Keyboardist Paul Raymond has been in and out of the group since the mid ’70s, with more time in than out so he counts as authentic too.

And while guitarist Vinnie Moore is a relatively recent recruit, having joined only in 2004, he’d established himself as a virtuoso soloist during the ’80s shredder guitar period. So he brought his own stellar reputation to the veteran band.

Longtime bassist Pete Way is not currently touring with the band due to a “medical condition which affects his liver.”

Hmmmm …. I wonder if they mean “drinking.”

Despite the changes, U.F.O has continued to crank out albums of aggressive, straightforward classic rock — the latest being 2012’s Seven Deadly.

U.F.O. will be playing at the Tangier, of all places. The Akron supper club hardly seems like a natural setting for their music. An act called the Fabulous Miss Wendy opens.

Tickets are $30-$40.
