Heights Music Hop Debuts

Fri 10/18 @ 6PM

Cleveland Heights is well known for its artistic proclivities.

It’s got its own poet laureate, countless visual artists, an array of theaters and theater people, and a high school known for its music program with multiple ensembles.

So the latest brand-new event on the calendar, the Heights Music Hop, seems like a natural.

This evening-long ramble, taking place in bars, restaurants, shops and galleries up and down Lee Road within a few blocks of Cedar Road in Cleveland Heights will feature 14 acts on seven main-stage venues, each with two or three acts.

They include red-hot acts like Bethesda and Seafair who have made major career strides in the last year, ranking them among the most likely acts to break out of the area in the next year or two. There are also some with local roots like the Spyder Stompers. Cellar Door Productions partnered with Future Heights in putting together the entertainment, so it’s heavy on indie rock. But you can also catch the unpredictable Xela and singer-songwriter Tom Evanchuck.

The music doesn’t stop there. Eight “unofficial” venues have booked supplementary acts. The include the Lee Road Library, where the Heights High Barbershoppers and the Josh Rzepka Trio will play, Mitchell’s chocolates, which will present jazz man Mark Gridley’s Trio, and Sweetie Fry, where you can catch Cleveland Heights duo Eve ’N’ Stephen. Cleveland Heights singer/songwriter and ubiquitous open mic host Charlie Mosbrook plays at gallery/gift shop Hessler on the Heights.

It‘s all free.

The music runs from 6-10pm. But if you still want more, head over to the official afterparty at the Bottlehouse Brewing Company from 10-11:30 where Bethesda will play and you can sample a new Bottlehouse brew for a $5 admission.
