The very strange and noisy Japanese duo Melt-Banana has been kicking around since the ’90s, when they were one of a number of strange and noisy Japanese bands to pay occasional visits to the old Grog Shop and Euclid Tavern.
The group has never given up doing that thing they do, building a catalog that’s now 11 albums deep, including this year’s Fetch.
Definitely an acquired taste, Melt-Banana features female vocalist Yasuko Onuki, barking out her English-language — but disjointed and often nonsensical — lyrics in a style so abstract and anti-melodic she could well be singing in a foreign (and probably unknown) language.
They’ll be back at the Grog Shop with drum/sax improv duo Brain Tentacles and Cleveland’s Murderedman.
