Los Straitjackets, Fleshtones Do the Mondo Zombie Boogaloo at the Beachland

Fri 10/18 @ 9PM

Lots of artists put out Christmas albums. But how many release Halloween albums?

Given that Halloween has grown into the second largest merchandising holiday after Christmas, maybe Mondo Zombie Boogaloo is on the cutting edge of a trend.

The album’s a compilation of new tracks by three bands: Nashville-based instrumental band Los Straitjackets, veteran New York garage-rockers the Fleshtones, and North Carolina punkabilly trio Southern Culture on the Skids.

They wrote originals and picked covers with spookiness in mind. And in addition to their individual tracks, the three bands joined forced for “Que Monstruos Son,” a Spanish version of “The Monster Mash.”  And it’ got over art by Steve Blickenstaff who did the cover of the Cramps’ 1984 Bad Music for Bad People.

Two of the three bands on the album — Los Straitjackets and the Fleshtones — will co-headline the Beachland Ballroom this week to extend your Halloween holiday season.  Wear a costume! Los Straitjackets, of course, will be sporting their trademark Mexican wrestling masks. They usually have such masks for sale at their merch table, so you might be able  pick up something new to wear to that upcoming Halloween bash.

Tickets are $20.
