New Orleans’ Harry Connick Jr. at PlayhouseSquare

Wed 10/23 @ 7:30PM

Pianist/singer/composer Harry Connick Jr. has become something of a pop culture celebrity with his extensive acting resume, his marriage to a Victoria’s Secret model, his work in helping to restore his native New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and lamentably, his stint as an American Idol judge.

None of that should take away from his music (His work in bringing musicians — the heart and soul of New Orleans — back home should only enhance his reputation). It’s solidly grounded classic piano pop that’s more or less jazz-imbued as the spirit strikes him. He’s worked with countless other musicians in multiple formats, ranging from solo to a full orchestra.

His latest album Every Man Should Know features a dozen of his own compositions about love in all its aspects, touching he says “upon love and loss, celebration and sorrow, tragedy and hope.”

He’s also just released “Love Wins,” dedicated to one of the children killed in the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy who was the daughter of one of his former band members. All proceeds from the sale of that song go to her family.

Connick and his band will be at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre.

Tickets are $39.50-$125
