New Space: ROCK Exhibit Focuses on Music’s Behind-the-Scenes Businesses

Fri 11/1 @ 6-10PM

Rock musicians get the spotlight. Their names and faces are known to their fans.

But beyond the stage lights, an army of usually unknown people are essential to get the music out to the public.

Space: ROCK gallery’s new photography exhibit, A Sound Baseline: Making Music Work, gives some of that spotlight to those people and their businesses: the recording studios, production companies, mastering suites, manufacturers, and music stores that provide musicians with the services they need.

It focuses on the extensive network of such businesses and the economic activity they bring to the area.

Four area photographers — Joe Kleon, Anastasia Pantsios, Mara Robinson, and Michael Spear — photographed 30 businesses that support both area and national musicians, showing the people and the work they do.

The opening reception, taking place during the monthly first Friday Walk All over Waterloo, is free.

A Sound Baseline will run through the end of December. Regular gallery hours are 1-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
