The current Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck tour, which stops at Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall this week, offers an intriguing combo of rock and roll legends.
Wilson, of course, founded the staggeringly influential Beach Boys before succumbing to personal issues for a while. He was the creative engine that lifted its music far beyond the realm of the surf tunes that provided its initial success.
Jeff Beck launched his guitar-god career from the springboard of the ’60s psychedelic blues group the Yardbirds, which also launched Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. He’s since explored many musical directions including jazz and electronic music, while maintaining his status as one of rock and roll’s most iconic guitarists.
Beck guested on Wilson’s upcoming studio album. The duo plans to try out some of those tracks on the road, as well as playing material from their vast back catalogues. (Both have been recording since the ’60s).
Two ex-Beach Boys, Al Jardine and David Marks, will be joining them.
