Spanish String Quartet & Cuban Guitarist Join Forces for Cleveland Program

The Barcelona-based string quartet Cuarteto Casals will provide the backbone of the next program presented jointly by the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society and the Cleveland Chamber Music Society at Plymouth Church.

The Grammy-winning group, which has recorded with artists ranging from tenor Placido Domingo to the Police’s Andy Summers, will perform the first half of them program.

For the second half, it will be joined by Cuban-born guitarist Manuel Barrueco. He’s played with orchestras around the world and done numerous international tours of his own in his three-decade career. He’s stretched his musical wings to perform duets with jazz guitarist Al DiMeola and rock guitarist Steve Morse.

The concert includes works by Eduard Toldra, Claude Debussy, Luigi Boccherini, and contemporary composer Roberto Sierra.

There’ll be a pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $30.

The evening before the concert Barrueco will conduct a free master class at the Church on the Covenant in University Circle from 7-9pm.
