Akron’s Aliver Hall is giving its fans an early chance to be thankful. Their plates will be overflowing with jams, jams, and more jams, when the Akron band hosts “An Aliverdelic Thanksgiving” at the Kent Stage.
Aliver Hall says it “brings rock and roll to its happy place,” and can’t you just see the big smiles on the faces of the swirling dancers?
With their prototypical sunny jam-band vibe, married with expansive, inclusive musicality, the relatively new quartet has been busy on the road, taking their music as far away as Colorado and becoming regulars on the festival circuit. Look for them to make more waves in the future.
They’ve tapped four bands to share the evening with them, starting with Cleveland’s jammin’ funk/reggae ensemble Tropidelic. They launched strong in 2007, went through some chances, and came charging back with their full-length debut, All Heads Unite, late last year.
Jahman Brahman relocated to Asheville, North Carolina, from Columbus. Apparently, their energetic music with its deep universal consciousness, which they’ve dubbed “shred n’ flow,” is more inspired by the relaxed, creative pace of this artistic mountain town than by drunken OSU fans throwing up in gutters on game days.
Blue Moon Soup from Yellow Springs will add a touch of good-timey folk/bluegrass/Celtic music to the evening’s mix, while Kent’s Drunken Sunday throws a bit of everything into the pot where they cook up their jams.
Neo-hippies owe Aliver Hall a big, big “thanks” for putting together this diverse evening of jams. And they’re not charging much either.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
