Hope that the members of Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, already have their Christmas shopping done, because they’re going to be too busy in December.
The group has two back-to-back series of concerts for a total of nine performances in barely more than two weeks.
They kick off their holiday celebration this week with a popular program they’ve not only performed before but also recorded and released last year — Sacrum Mysterium: A Celtic Christmas. (Purchase here for your out-of-town friends who can’t make it to a live concert.)
The program blends Celtic folk traditions and ancient pagan carols with Renaissance choral music. There are bagpipes and flute and Celtic harp — and even dancing! No wonder people love this lively presentation so much.
Featured performers include soprano Meredith Hall, baritone Jeffrey Strauss, dancer/guitarist Steve Player, the Apollo’s Singers, and Ensemble La Nef of Montréal.
It’ll have five performances across northeast Ohio: Tuesday at St. Mary of the Falls in Olmsted Falls, Wednesday at Bath UCC Church, Thursday at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland, Saturday at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights, and Sunday at St. Noel’s in Willoughby.
Tickets are $26-$70.
