Bill Rudman has made a name for himself as a promoter of early 20th-century pop music and music from musical theater, both through his radio program and the productions he organizes.
His latest cabaret-style offering, Bill Rudman’s Big Battle of the Sexes, at Nighttown, will take on the vicissitudes for love and the differing perspectives of men and women that lead to clashes.
Since this is music from more than 50 years ago, expect the attitudes expressed to sound dated or even sexist. Rudman and singers Nancy Maier, Cassie Goldbach, and Sean Szaller will be evoking the musical rivalries between Annie Oakley and Frank Butler (Annie Get Your Gun) and Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins (My Fair Lady), as well as presenting a selection of other classic pop tunes, both well-known and obscure, like “Makin’ Whoopee” and Cole Porter’s “Most Gentlemen Don’t Like Love (They Just Like to Kick It Around).”
Tickets are $22 for the main room $16 for the side rooms, and are available by calling the Musical Theater Project at 216-245-8687 or online.
