CIM Faculty Concert Features World-Class Piano-Violin Duo

Wed 12/4

Cleveland Institute of Music faculty recitals are always a great deal for classical music lovers — a chance to hear some of the best musicians around for a great price — usually free.

Pianist Sandra Shapiro and violinist Ivan Ženatý both teach at CIM — when they aren’t out touring together across the U.S., and in Europe and Asia.

They’re actually on the road now, but will be stopping by CIM’s Mixon Hall to show a local audience what they can do.

Shapiro attended Julliard, won numerous piano competitions, toured around the world, and performed with a multitude of major orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra.

Ženatý’s credentials also include numerous competitions stretching back to the late ’80s as well as numerous orchestra appearances, especially in his native Czech Republic, and collaborations with musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Yehudi Menunin.

Their combined credentials speak to the quality of the CIM faculty and why it’s one of the world’s outstanding conservatories.

Their program will include Dvořák’s Romantic Pieces for Violin and Piano, Schumann’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in D minor, Smetana’s Z domoviny (From My Homeland), Two Pieces for Violin and Piano, and
Strauss’ Sonata for Violin and Piano in E-flat Major.

It’s free but seating passes are required. Call 216.795.3211.
