Off the mean streets of Cleveland Heights comes Signals Midwest, bearing their latest release Light on the Lake, released — like their 2011 album Latitudes and Longitudes — on Carolina-based Tiny Engines Records.
It’s the third disc for the quartet, which formed in 2008, driven by a punk-rock ethos but rapidly spreading their wings to develop a more ambitious sound. While some of the tropes will be familiar, like the pain vibrations in singer/guitarist Max Stern’s delivery, the songs take musical twists and turns you don’t always anticipate.
And once again, as with Latitudes and Longitudes, the band’s offering Light on the Lake in multiple collectible colors, which they’ve dubbed “Light” (orange), “Lake” (dark blue), “Sludge” (white with green and black starbursts), and “Clear,” which is self-explanatory.
You can see them below or inspect them close-up at the band’s CD release show at the Grog Shop. Anabel and Worship This! open.
Admission is $8.
