Tue 12/3 @ 7:30PM
Known for their execution of both classical and contemporary repertoire, the relatively young (for a string quartet) Daedalus Quartet is the next offering from the Cleveland Chamber Music Society.
The 13-year-old ensemble will reach back to the early 19th-century for Felix Mendelssohn’s Quarter No. 1 in E Flat, then jump to the earlier 20th century for Benjamin Britten’s Quartet No 1 in D (1931) and Erwin Schulhoff’s Five Pieces for String Quartet (1923).
The Schulhoff is part of a program they have been doing called “Music From Exile,” which features and reflects upon the work of composers impacted by the Third Reich. A Czech Jew, Schulhoff died in a concentration camp.
There’ll be a pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm, where you’ll undoubtedly learn more about him, as well as about Britten and Mendelssohn. It takes place at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights.
Tickets are $30.
