Disengage Frontman Returns With Black Black Black @GrogShop

Sat 11/16 @ 9PM

There won’t be anything laidback about this Saturday night at the Grog Shop.

A five-band bill is headed by Brooklyn-based Black Black Black, a dense, forboding post-metal quartet.

Its self-titled album, released in February, features tracks like “Pentagram On,” “Wisdom, Knowledge & Fucked,” and “Mishandled Cult Funds” that demonstrate a sly, sidelong take on metal-based music, the kind of thing one would have heard at the Euclid Tavern or the old Grog Shop in the ’90s. (Also, there’s a drum solo).

It’s not a surprise to learn its lead singer is Jason Byers who once fronted Cleveland’s Disengage, a band often featured on those shows. Byers is also an artist who created the band’s striking graphics. And Cleveland’s Chris Kulcsar (This Moment in Black History) contributed some Moog playing to the album.

The bill’s rounded out by Columbus heavy stoner-style band Lo Pan, and three northeast Ohio bands who like it loud: Fuck You Pay Me, the Gluttons, and the Unclean from Akron.

Tickets are a mere $7 for all that music.
