Doug E. Fresh Heads Legends of Hip Hop Show @Playhousesquare

Sat 11/30 @ 8PM

Hip hop is no youngster anymore.

It’s been almost three decades since the first major hip hop tour, the Swatch Watch Fresh Fest, brought artists like Run D.M.C., Whodini, and Kurtis Blow to Public Hall. The music once considered so iconoclastic in some circles is now old enough to have legends — lots of them.

The Legends of Hip Hop tour, which is making a stop at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre, is headlined by Doug E. Fresh, the self-styled “World’s Greatest Entertainer.”

Now 47, the producer, rapper, beat boxer, and New York radio host made his mark with a series of hits in the mid ’80s with the Get Fresh Crew. Since then most of his work has been in radio and TV.

It’s unclear who else will be on the bill with him. But with plenty of old-school rappers eager to show they’ve still got it, there are such to be some interesting characters. There are suggestions that one of them might be Doug E.’s old Get Fresh Crew mate, Slick Rick, the human jewelry box.

Tickets are $22.50-$62.50.
