The Transformer Station’s fall concert series presents two concerts in three days this week.
The second, by Sheffield, England’s Mark Fell, will demonstrate that there’s a lot more to electronic music that the perky pop “EDM” (electronic dance music) hits on the radio or the put-your-brain-in-hold beat-heavy music that fuels dance parties.
While Fell starts with the same elements, he also draws from experimental film and video art, and incorporates a highly technical, computer-based approach to composition. His music fits more comfortably into an art museum than a dance club.
“Although well versed in the use of ambisonics, his work in this area is characterised by ‘non-illusion based’ approaches where multiple waveshapes are spatially distributed to form complex synthetic sonic environments,” his website says.
This will be Fell’s first Cleveland appearance.
Tickets are $20. Order now because the space is small.
