New Music Ensemble No Exit Pays Tribute to Raymond Scott @Spacesgallery

Fri 11/15 @ 8:30PM

Cleveland’s No Exit music ensemble features a team of highly trained classical musicians. They’ve collectively played with many orchestras and chamber groups, especially those focusing on new music.

Pianist/composer Nick Underhill’s music has been played by the Cleveland Orchestra — and he’s only one of the group’s three composers, along with the group’s artistic directors Tim Beyer and associate director James Praznik.

The group’s core members will be joined by special guests, including Russ Gershon of Either/Orchestra and Dinesh Joseph of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra when they pay tribute to American composer Raymond Scott at SPACES Gallery.

Scott, who died in 1994, was a polymath and eccentric who had a wide-ranging 60-year musical career that included early experiments with electronics.

The SPACES program will focus on interpretations and music inspired by his Raymond Scott Quintette. That ensemble lasted only from 1937 to 1939 but its economical tunes that verged on novelty music were hugely popular and later adapted for cartoon music.

The event is free.

Beyer and Gershon will be guests of Dee Perry on the Sound of Applause Wed 11/13 @ 2pm.
