Numbers Band Plays @KentStage To Mark Album Reissue

Sat 11/9 @ 8PM

The Numbers Band aka 15-60-75 got their start in Kent over 40 years ago playing little dives like JB’s that dotted the town back in the day. In 1976, the band released its debut album, Jimmy Bell’s Still in Town, recorded live at the old Agora on east 24th.

That classic album has become quite the cult item, and it’s had several reissues. The band became legendary for its unusual collision of jazz, blues and rock, especially after the band was vociferously championed by Pere Ubu’s David Thomas, who spearheaded a 2000 reissue.

It’s being reissued again on Cleveland’s Exit Stencil label. This time it’s a double album with another show from the same time period, more liner notes, more photos, more everything.

The Numbers Band is celebrating with a special performance just two blocks from JB’s — the 650-seat Kent Stage.

They’re promising a show focused on material from the Jimmy Bell era with guitarist Michael Stacey and bassist Drake Gleason who were then members of the band making special guest appearances. (The band still includes core members, vocalist/guitarist Bob Kidney, his vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jack Kidney, and sax player Terry Hynde. In addition, Cleveland-based internationally known jazz saxophonist Ernie Krivda will be a guest for the occasion.

The band will be playing three full sets — just like old times.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door.

If you want to know more about the Numbers Band, they’ve got a detailed history and discography at their website.
