Persian Violinist Kayhan Kalhor @ClevelandArt

Wed 11/20 @ 7:30PM

The Cleveland Museum of Art has combed the globe for violinist/fiddlers in every style imaginable for its Masters of the Fiddle series this year.

It’s not too surprising they’d call up Iranian musician Kayhan Kalhor, who plays a form of Persian fiddle called the kamancheh: the museum’s curator of performing arts and music, Massoud Saidpour, is himself from Iran.

And Kalhor’s reputation has spread well beyond his native country. He’s part of cellist Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project, he contributed to the soundtrack of Francis Ford Copolla’s 2007 film, Youth Without Youth, and he’s been nominated for a couple of Grammys.

In addition to combining the folk and classical music of Iran, he’s absorbed influences from around the world via his multitude of collaborations.

At the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, he’s perform with Ali Bahrami Fard who plays the santoor or Persian dulcimer).

Tickets are $29-$45.
