PHOTOSTREAM: @CleUpcycle Opens on St. Clair

Fri 11/22

Nicole McGee, who birthed the Collective Upcycle pop-up stores that have cropped up at places like Gordon Square, has been tapped by the Superior St. Clair Development Corporation to do Upcycle St. Clair. The project proposes to reclaim the St. Clair strip east of 55th, a former hub for the ethnic Eastern European Community, whose past still lives in places like the Slovenian Home at 6409 St. Clair.

Along with Lauren Krueger, she’s just launched the Collective Upcycle shop at 6202 St. Clair with a grand opening Fri 11/22. The double storefront was crammed with people browsed the handmade wares from local artists, created out of repurposed materials. They ranged from the usual — and always popular — scented soaps and scrubs, to wreaths made from sheet music, and bracelets and keyfobs made from license plates.

Drinks, treats from Impassioned Bakery, soon to open in the area, and music from a polka quartet made the opening even more festival.

Collective Upcycle will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from noon to 8pm, and Sundays from 10am to 4pm through April.
