Robert Cray Still Singing the Blues @KentStage

Tue 11/19 @ 8PM

It doesn’t seem that long since Robert Cray was the “new kid” on the contemporary blues scene. But he made a splash with his 1986 breakthrough album Strong Persuader.

He’s now well established as one of the biggest names in electric rock blues, with 18 studio albums and even a couple of hits in the late ’80s “Smoking Gun” and “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.”

Those songs planted his flag in the music scene and formed the basis on which he’s built a career. His rocking, accessible form of the blues, shot through with jazz and soul, fills a gap left by Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing. Not a trend follower, he works in a style whose fans aren’t either.

He’ll be at the Kent Stage with his Robert Cray Band, which features keyboardist Jim Pugh, bassist Richard Cousins (who has been playing with Cray for almost 40 years) and drummer Tony Braunagel.

Tickets are $30.50-$45.50.
