You know all those horror-punk and metal bands that have their heyday around Halloween?
Noticed how every single one of them name-checks Misfits as an influence?
Of course they do. Formed way back in the late ’70s, the New Jersey band pioneered adding horror-film imagery to hyper-aggressive rock and roll. So many bands have covered their tunes — from Guns N’ Roses to Metallica — that it’s barely worth reiterating. Their “fiend skull” logo has been seen, well, everywhere.
The band was inactive from 1983, when singer Glenn Danzig left, until 1995 when bassist Jerry Only settled his legal battles with Danzig and won the right to continue as the Misfits (its only founding member). It was never absent from the consciousness of punk and metal rockers, and their return was greeted with cheers by many.
Currently, the band includes former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and drummer Eric Arce (ex-Murphy’s Law) who has played with the band fulltime since 2010.
Nothing revolutionary here, but if you’re a fan of the genre, you might as well see the (semi) real thing. As the band says, with them, “Every day is Halloween.”
They’ll be at the Agora Theatre with the Attack opening.
Tickets are $22 in advance, $24 day of show.
