Brooklyn Funk Rockers Turkuaz Return to @BeachlandCLE

Fri 1/3 @ 9PM

Brooklyn-based Turkuaz were last seen in these parts when they played with local “jamtronica” band Broccoli Samurai at their CD release party at the Beachland Ballroom in October.

Apparently, they made quite a splash because they’re back already, heading the same venue, kicking off a coast-to-coast road trip in Cleveland.

It’s easy to see what the band’s appeal is. Nine band members, including a horn section and a pair of female vocalists, produce a big, broad, jazzy, jammy funk/rock sound that makes it hard to sit still. It recalls a subset of bands popular in the ’70s like War, Mother’s Finest, or Cleveland’s Rastus.

Formed in Boston almost six years ago, the band’s been accruing fans at gigs and festivals around the country. They’ll doubtless gather more when they come back to Cleveland. Boomslang opens.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
