Want to really upset smarmy, false-controversy-creating right-wingers like Bill O’Reilly (pictured) and Sarah Palin? Especially Palin, who just published a new book claiming that “Christians” like her aren’t allowed to celebrate Christmas as freely as they’d like?
Celebrate Festivus! It’s a totally fake secular holiday introduced into the culture by a 1997 episode of the popular sitcom Seinfeld in the ’90s. Now people across the country celebrate it — some seriously, while others take it as a spoof.
The Beachland Tavern took it as an opportunity to book some local bands for a Punk Rock Festivus.
Kent’s venerable Kill the Hippies, who describe themselves as “non-denominational hardcore/punk/disco,” which is somehow appropriate to the occasion; Swirly in the Fryer, who have one of the best local band names and have played Now That’s Class so often they probably own a bar stool there, and Short Handed will play a free show on December 23, the very day dubbed Festivus on by the Seinfeld crew.
