Since moving to northeast Ohio many moons ago from her native England, jazz/pop singer Helen Welch has become beloved in this area as well. She’s known for the special shows she puts together that draw on her diverse background, which includes extensive experience in musical theater.
That’s undoubtedly why her Jingle Bell Swing Christmas Cabaret show at the Akron Civic Theatre December 18 sold out a couple of weeks in advance.
Luckily, Welch and the Akron Civic added a second show the following night where she’ll again perform holiday favorites in all the styles she’s known for, leavened with her engaging and humorous stage personality. She and her band — pianist Rock Wehrmann, bassist Bryan Thomas, and drummer Chris Baker will perform tunes like “Winter Wonderland,” “Boogie Woogie Santa,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and, of course, “Jingle Bells.”
Tickets are $25 or a pair for $40.
