2013 Brought a Bumper Crop of Local Record Releases

It seems like every week we get word of another record release show or two from northeast Ohio bands of every variety — jazz, blues, punk, jam, hip hop, neo-soul, garage, punkabilly, noise, folk, indie-style, Americana, singer-songwriter, bluegrass, and straightahead rock.

We’ve been tracking them throughout the year, and we’re posting the list we’ve assembled below. Let us know if you spot any omissions and we will add them. They should be at least EPs; we’d go crazy trying to track down every single. However, this list does contain a mix of CDs and vinyl, with more and more bands opting for the latter.

We’re not going to even attempt a “top ten local releases” list because the offerings are so diverse, and a top ten for one person might not interest another. And with an exceptionally strong group of bands now out on the local scene, dozens of these releases are worth someone’s listen. And many of them would make great Christmas presents for a musically adventurous friend if you’re into shopping local.

  1. Lisa Parsons

Really should include Armstrong Bearcats “Stronger than Ever”. Featuring local guitar legend Butch Armstrong, Mike Barrick (also part of Bad Boys of Blues) and Billy Coakley. Three of the most skilled musicians in Cleveland.
