Cleveland’s Muamin Collective has been kicking around since the mid ’00s, making some of the area’s most boundary-ignoring hip hop that encompasses many varieties of electronic and jazz as well as experimental hip hop beats.
Its career looked promising with the release of 2009’s World B. Free. But it’s been only sporadically active since then. Finally, this year, the group released a new album, So Blue It’s Black.
So it has something to celebrate at its annual Red, Black & Green Xmas showcase at the Grog Shop. The seventh annual event will feature a lineup of their many musical friends including LMNTL, Latch Key, Peerless, the Dangerous Colors, and DJ Red-I.
Muamin themselves will play with a full band — the quartet led by Cleveland uber-percussionist Neil Chastain which backed them this past summer when they performed at Weapons of Mass Creation at Cleveland Public Theatre.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
