PHOTOSTREAM: Classical Revolution @HappyDog58

Tue 12/17

December’s monthly Classical Revolution performance at the Happy Dog was full of holiday spirit.

Special guest Carl Topilow, director of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, previewed some material from the group’s upcoming New Year’s Eve show. Topilow, known for playing a red clarinet, had a red and green one on hand. And he brought up the mother of one of the Happy Dog owners to plunk some piano on one tune.

He was followed onstage by a quartet led by violinist Ariel Clayton that regaled the crowd — including a tableful of individuals sporting Santa hats — with selections from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Clayton soloed on a deliberately dissonant version of “Silent Night” that was anything  but calm.
