The classic soul revival shows no signs of slowing down in northeast Ohio.
With Wesley Bright and the Hi-Lites now packing clubs, another newer Akron ensemble is coming up hot on their heels.
The six-member Admirables includes sax player Nathan-Paul Davis who does double duty in the Hi-Lites, guitarist Dave Hammer and bassist Matt DeRubertis, who are in blues-rock trio Dave Hammer’s Power Supply, keyboardist Steven Miller who’s also in the progressive hip-hop jazz project Spontaneous Flow with Davis, drummer Holbrook Riles, and a second sax player, Chris Coles.
The Admirables’ twist is that its mostly original music (along with some obscure soul/R&B covers) is all instrumental.
The group is doing its “Christmas Get-Down” at Musica in Akron with Baron Rodgers hosting and guest DJ Forrest Getemgump.
Admission is $5. If you bring a gift, you can participate in the secret Santa swap.
