The Boys From the County Hell Escape St. Patrick’s Day to Celebrate Christmas @HOBCleveland

Mon 12/23 @ 8PM

So you’re asking yourself, what the hell are the Boys from the County Hell doing popping up at THIS time of year? The Cleveland-based tribute to the Pogues, the Irish rock band known for its drunken revelry as well as its music, is a St. Patrick’s season institution in this area.

And many of the members are super-busy this time of year with their other seasonal band, the Christmas-themed Ohio City Singers. Singer-songwriter Chris Allen leads both, and both bands include bassist Tom Prebish, guitarist Doug McKean and accordion player Nick Stipanovich.

But they’ve got a perfect excuse for a Christmas gig. The Pogues’ classic 1987 tune “Fairytale of New York” — the song that begins “It was Christmas eve, babe, in the drunk tank …” has just been reissued in honor of its 25th anniversary. You can pretty much assume it will be on the set list. So brush up your best boozy imitation of Shane MacGowan and sing along.

Mary’s Lane will open.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door.
