Alt Country’s Felice Brothers Play @AkronMusica

Sat 1/18 @ 8PM

The Felice Brothers did some time in their musically formative years, back in the early ’00s, in that hipster haven of Brooklyn, New York. It’s not their natural mileau though. The three brothers that founded the band — James, Ian, and the now departed Simone — are originally from the Catskills in upstate New York, and that’s where the five-member band is based now.

It seems like a more fitting setting for the group’s earthy, alt country-leaning folk rock, which has found them much favor at festivals with a rustic slant or a folk flavor, including major events like Tennessee’s Bonaroo and the Newport Folk Festival.

Their most recent album, 2012’s God Bless You, Amigo, including a mix of traditional rural blues and old-time country tunes, and previously unrecorded tunes by the band itself.

The group will perform at Musica in Akron; Akron’s Austin Craig opens.

Tickets are $15.
